Post-Baccalaureate Entry Option

We are not accepting post-bacs in English or Social Studies at this time.

This program is designed for individuals who have already earned a bachelor's and/or master's degree in an appropriate academic area from an accredited college of university (including JMU) and wish to be licensed to teach at the secondary school level (grades 6-12).

Admission Criteria

To be fully admitted to the M.A.T. degree program as post-baccalaureate candidates, applicants must:

  • Have an undergraduate GPA of 2.70 or above,
  • Satisfy all requirements for admission to teacher education, including obtaining a passing score on Praxis I
  • Have a passing score on Praxis II in your area(s) of specialization (i.e. biology, chemistry, earth science, English, mathematics, social studies, etc.)
  • Complete all content area requirements for teacher licensure in the subject area(s) they are preparing to teach. The appropriate undergraduate major or the equivalent, as identified by program faculty upon review of candidates' academic record, is required.
  • Satisfy all requirements for admission to the Graduate School, including
    • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, and
    • Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogy Test (contact the department head for specific concentration requirements) scores at the 25th percentile or above
